Community Health Worker Training Programme

Deutsche Aidshilfe is a large community-based not-for-profit organisation with 66 staff and an annual budget of around 6.5 m Euro. DAH is the national umbrella organisation for more than 140 local and regional member organisations across Germany. For more than 30 years, DAH has focused on most-at-risk groups, especially MSM. The activities of Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe include national information and health promotion campaigns and resource production using the full range of media; train-the-trainer and continuing professional education for volunteers, CHW and health professionals; support for self-help initiatives; as well as policy advocacy, research and evaluation. In 2008, DAH established an international department to strengthen HIV, HCV and STI prevention activities on the international level with a focus on the EU as well as partners in Eastern Europe and central Asia. DAH has extensive experience in working successfully with government and non-government stakeholders across a range of settings and national boundaries.

Profile: Master degree in political sciences, sociology and KOM (cultural sciences, organization, management). Experience in international project management, experience in adult and continuing professional education, experience in quality management and evaluation, highly developed communication and negotiation skills, more than 25 years of experience in working with gay and other MSM and CHW including management of prevention campaigns and programs, good command of Microsoft Office tools, proficient language skills in English, Spanish and German.

Expert Advisor MSM: Dr Dirk Sander

Head of the Gay and other MSM HIV/STI prevention and health promotion programme, Doctoral Degree in Social Sciences, extensive project management experience including large national prevention campaigns and programmes, substantial experience in education and training, relevant experience in quality management and evaluation, negotiation and communication skills, language skills: German, English.

Expert Advisor International Projects: Ludger Schmidt

Head of the international Department, Master Degree in Education, expert in drug use prevention and addiction treatment, extensive practical experience with the specific cultural background of migrants from Russia and central Asia, more than 20 years of training experience in Eastern Europe and central Asia, language skills: German, Russian, English.


Trainer (Subcontractor): Matthias Wentzlaff-Eggebert

Master Degree in NGO Management, HIV/sexual health/viral hepatitis and NGO management consultant, 15 years of experience in developing and conducting training of volunteers, CHW and health professionals, including train-the-trainer programmes, 20 years of experience as a CHW in conducting and managing HIV prevention and sexual health promotion programmes with MSM, 10 years of experience as a government official in HIV/sexual health/viral hepatitis policy and programme development and implementation, bilingual German/English, 5 years of experience in European project management

Trainer (Subcontractor): Deirdre Seery

Executive Director of The Sexual Health Centre in Cork, Degree in Social Science and Postgraduate Diploma in NGO Management, 30 years of experience in train-the-trainer adult education for health and social workers, 25 years of experience leading sexual health programmes for vulnerable groups, including MSM, extensive national and international collaboration and projects.
